A day in Murlo dedicated to environmental protection with ‘Last Stop’ by MOTUS

An “Afternoon in the Wildlife Park” with excursion, buffet and a show

On October 21 2023 at 6:30 PM, at the Municipal Gymnasium of Casciano di Murlo (via della Bandita), the show ‘Ultima Fermata’ (‘Last Stop’) by the MOTUS Company, is on stage. The show produced with the support of the Tuscany Region and co-produced by Mulino ad Arte (Torino, Italy)  addresses the topics of environmental sustainability and climate tipping points.

The performance is aimed at raising awareness within the community about the climate crisis, through dance, during this particular historical period when the system of production and consumption is incompatible with nature and with natural evolutive processes, imposing schemes and mechanisms in contrast with them.

Here the containment of greenhouse gas emissions represents humanity’s last opportunity to avoid an environmental catastrophe. Data are well-known. An alarming analysis of a group of researchers, belonging to the Australian National Center for Climate Restoration, outlines a scenario in which, by 2050, the global warming will exceed three degrees centigrade, triggering fatal alterations of the ecosystem  and colossal migrations of at least a billion people. After climate “tipping points” are exceeded, the global warming will feed itself, also without human intervention, making every attempt to eliminate emissions useless.

Through the choreography of Martina Agricoli, performed by Ilaria Fratantuono, Roberta Morello, and Mattia Solano, directed by Rosanna and Simona Cieri, the MOTUS Company imagines  what can happen in 26 years from now, when the planet will reache the climate point of no return. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of three survivors seeking refuge on a bus, resisting the inevitable end. The bus becomes a stage for various events, and the Сompany uses some humor to highlight how humanity can be crazy, in its dependent compulsive shoppig of objects that are such unuseful as energy-dispersing  and harmful to the planet. The conclusion, even if inevitable,  is not obvious and the unexpected ending surprises the audience.

The show ‘Ultima Fermata’  concludes the event ‘Afternoon in the Wildlife Park’ organized by the Municipality of Murlo in collaboration with CAI Siena, Murlo Cultural Association, Cultural Association Don Lorenzo Bozzi with the patronage of the Tuscany Region. The program includes an excursion in the Basso Merse Natural Park (meeting at 2:30 PM at the Municipal Gymnasium) with highlights on the impact of climate change on the territory. Upon return, there will be a buffet at the Municipal Gymnasium before the show. Participation is free upon reservation, and for information, you can contact the number 0577 046677 ext.1 or send email to urp@comune.murlo.siena.it.
