The MOTUS show against gender violence closes the program of the “Sovicille d’estate” Festival
On the 27th of August at 9,15 pm at the Castello di Montarrenti, the show “The Divina’s” by the MOTUS Company closes the program of the “Sovicille d’Estate” Festival, organized by Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo Onlus in collaboration with the Municipality of Sovicille.
“The Divina’s”, show produced by MOTUS with the support of the Tuscany Region, with choreography by Martina Agricoli, is a choreographic project that analyzes some female figures of the Divina Commedia, as a symbol of violence against women.
The show focuses on the characters of Penthesilea, Lucrezia and Pia de Tolomei, a historical figure intimately linked to the territory of Sovicille: according to legend, during her journey from Siena to Maremma, the noblewoman crossed the bridge near Rosia, which still bears her name.
Through the narration of these ancient stories of abuse of the female body, MOTUS brings to the stage the stereotypes that label victims of violence. Stereotypes such as the phrase “she went looking for it” with accuses women of having provoked the aggressor because they were too beautiful or too undressed, or the question “did you feel pleasure?” prononced by judges during rape trials. Thus the public discovers the story of Lucrezia, a Roman noblewoman who committed suicide in front of her husband to demonstrate her innocence after being raped by Sesto Tarquinio. Or the story of Penthesilea, queen of the Amazons, who was condemned by Aphrodite to suffer violence from all men who had seen her face. She hided in an armor and fighted the Trojan war, but she was raped by Achilles after her death.
The show, performed by Martina Agricoli, Paloma Biagioli, Ilaria Fratantuono, Roberta Morello and Mattia Solano and directed by Rosanna and Simona Cieri, is produced with the support of the Tuscany Region.
Ticket: € 2.
